Why Brexit Means Exit for People in the Creative Industry

Why Brexit Means Exit for People in the Creative Industry Three years after the historic referendum in Britain in which people voted to come out of the European Union it finally happened. Brexit happened on Friday, January 31st at midnight in Europe. The UK is still in a year of transition while politicians thrash out the finer details of the divorce from the EU. But what does it mean for employers and employees in the creative industries? Well new research by TopCV, reveals that 25 percent of marketing, media, and design professionals are planning to seek employment outside the UK as a result of Britain’s decision to leave the European Union. Britain’s exit on the 31st January 2020 will have seismic consequences for Britains creative industries, worth £268 billion in 2018. TopCV’s data found that 15 percent of those surveyed would consider packing up their lives and moving from the UK. However, Brexit will cause greatest harm to the marketing, media and design sector, which will see a quarter of its workforce up and leave to advance their careers, followed closely by workers in science and education (21%), engineering and construction (18%), project and program management (17%), and technology (16%). Our research reveals incredibly dire implications for Britain’s creative industries. We have some of the brightest minds and most creative agencies in the UK, so for a quarter of that talent to leave would be shocking. Hiring and retaining the right staff, even in the steadiest of times, can be tough. Employers will have to identify creative ways to incentivize their employees to remain in the UK â€" and quickly. As a silver lining, there are numerous ways those wanting to break into these industries can leverage Brexit as an opportunity to advance their careers as a result of new vacancy openings. Amanda Augustine, careers expert at TopCV Whatever job losses or opportunities Brexit may bring, following are four ways you can proactively take charge of your career: 1. Invest in your network If you had neglected your professional network for a while, now’s the time to reinvest in this important career tool. In times of job uncertainty, your network of professional and personal contacts can be an invaluable source of support and motivation, career advice and job leads. Reconnect with former colleagues and alumni in your field, and seek opportunities, such as relevant networking events, to make new connections. If you’re interested in working for a new company or in a new industry, schedule informational interviews with individuals who already work at the organisation or in the field, and can help you determine whether it’s the right move for you. 2. Strengthen your skillset Whether you’re planning to pursue a new line of work or you’re wishing to safeguard your current position against redundancy, it’s in your best interest to seek professional development opportunities that can boost your employability. Look to your professional organizations, the local universities and the web for free or low-cost workshops and courses that can help you sharpen a skill or learn an entirely new one. 3. Promote your expertise Modesty has no place in an ambitious professional’s career tool kit â€" especially when the job market is competitive. Use this opportunity to Google your name, reevaluate your LinkedIn profile and other social media activities, and make certain you’re consistently promoting your talents to prospective employers and potential networking connections. Consider posting articles about your industry and sharing your perspective on the topic, publishing an article on a blog or your LinkedIn profile that demonstrates your knowledge of a subject, and sharing outcomes of your work or professional-development opportunities. You cannot expect your network â€" or even your manager â€" to appreciate your accomplishments and expertise if you don’t actively merchandise them. 4. Update your CV Whether youre looking for a job because the market is flush with opportunities or because companies are downsizing, a strong CV is the foundational building block for your post-Brexit career preparations. Although the art and science of CV writing can be tough to master, professional CV writers can help craft a CV that can be your winning ticket into any interview room, no matter the circumstances.

My Dramatic Natural Childbirth Story Using The Bradley Method - Classy Career Girl

My Dramatic Natural Childbirth Story Using The Bradley Method Im so excited to introduce you to the newest member of the Classy Career Girl family, Sienna Grace Runyan. Born on August 1st and sharing the same birthday as her late great-grandmother, Margaret, she came fast and furious. The story is nothing short of dramatic and exciting so I’m sure this little girl has lots of surprises coming our way in the future. While my labor with my first daughter, Mila, lasted a tough and grueling 20 hours, my labor with Sienna only lasted 4 hours!! You can read Milas birth story here. A Note About My Natural Childbirth Decision Before we start, I do have to share my decisions for labor. For both of my deliveries, I tried my best to have a natural, unmedicated childbirth and follow The Bradley Method. Bradley Method is  also known as husband-coached childbirth and teaches parents to manage labor through deep breathing and support of a partner. If you are interested in natural childbirth, I cannot recommend these classes enough! If you dont have the time to attend the class, I recommend the book, Natural  Childbirth The Bradley Way by Susan McCutcheon. Its a little old but has all the info you need to have a natural childbirth. Note: For both of my labors, I was just minutes away from an unmedicated delivery. The midwives and doctors at both of my births gave me one last push or else and to this day, Im not quite sure what or else was going to be. Emergency C-section, forceps, vacuum, drugs.Im glad I never had to know. I know that not every mothers situation can be a natural childbirth and every mother needs to make the right decision for her. For me, I knew I wanted to go into labor committed and focused on doing everything I could to have a natural childbirth and give my daughters the best possible entrance into this world. If my deliveries would have ended with something outside of my control such as a C-section, drugs or vacuum, I would not have been upset because I knew I did my best and my husband and I were as educated as possible in order to make the best decision for our family. I chose natural because after doing my research, there are a lot of complications that can arise with inductions and with c-sections. I have nothing against them, I just knew that committing to a natural childbirth was the right decision for me with as little intervention as possible. And as youll see, there wasnt much time for any intervention for baby #2 almost born in the car! How Labor Started My contractions started at 4am on August 1st, 2018. That was the exact same time I woke up with contractions with my first daughter, Mila!   Initially, contractions feel like very light period cramps so I kept telling myself not to get my hopes up.  I laid in bed for 2 hours just letting them come and go because they weren’t consistent or very painful at all. I didnt even wake my husband up because I knew we needed rest for a long day. I woke up and walked around to see if contractions continued. They did so I knew this was it. I woke up John at 6am and said today is the day. It was 2 days before my due date so I was definitely ready to meet my baby girl. The night before when we went to bed we said it will probably be tomorrow because we actually have plans tomorrow and we didnt have plans for the entire week before. The day that contractions started, Mila had her first day of preschool.   I also had two live calls I was supposed to do with our members and John was supposed to play tennis that night. It was already one busy day but that wasnt stopping Sienna from making her grand entrance. After I woke up John at 6am. I finished packing my hospital bag. I also got Milas backpack ready for the first day of school between contractions and then hopped in the shower. The water felt really good on my body during my contractions and I remember this from my first labor with Mila. I was timing my contractions and they were coming closer and closer together and getting stronger. I was surprised that they were getting closer but I didn’t want to get my hopes up that things would move fast because of my previous 20-hour intense labor. I got out of the shower and got dressed. Of course, Mila woke up and wanted me to help her get dressed. I somehow helped her put on her dress for school in between contractions and asked John to make us eggs. He looked at my contraction timer app and realized we might need to go to the hospital sooner rather than later. So he called my mom to have her pick up Mila from preschool that day and called the hospital to let them know to reserve us a room. The woman who I spoke with said not to rush in if I wanted a natural labor and said to wait longer. So, I agreed because just talking to them made my contractions practically disappear. Who asks a laboring woman her medical record number and expects her to know! My first birth with Mila was in a birth center so everyone around was supportive of a natural childbirth. I knew now that since I was giving birth in a hospital, I would be an anomaly.  I was worried about not being able to have the natural labor I wanted once I got to the hospital and I also knew the contractions would be much more comfortable at home. And Then Things Went Fast. John was still getting Mila ready for school so I laid on the couch in a side-lying position that I learned at our Bradley Method class. This was the same position that I used in early labor with Mila. This time the position was unbearable and so much more painful than I remember. I wanted to scream during my contractions but Mila was still around having breakfast so I didn’t want to freak her out. She thought mommy was just sleeping on the couch. Finally, I told John he needed to leave now and pushed them out the door with a hug and kiss to Mila in between a contraction so he could get her to school and I could scream. John walked her to school and I asked another parent to watch Mila a little early because we were headed directly to the hospital. Just a few minutes/contractions later by myself in the living room and my water broke. I quickly messaged John and said hury instead of hurry and John dropped Mila off with the first parent he saw and ran back because he knew I never mis spell so it must really be urgent. I got to the point by myself on the couch where I didnt think I could do it any longer. The point where you regret your decision to go natural and if you are in a hospital you say give me some drugs ASAP!! But I wasnt in a hospital and baby was almost out! John got back super fast after that text and I was panicked by myself. I could feel the urge to push and knew that the  baby was coming very soon. Everything I learned though from Bradley Method made me know that I could not push yet since I was not in a hospital. I didn’t even have time to put a change of clothes on after my water broke so I asked John for a towel and wrapped it around me. He was still packing the car (and moving kind of slow in my opinion) until I screamed, Get in the car and drive NOW! I   jumped in the front seat praying that we would get there in time and trying not to push even though my body wanted to. It was 8am when we left our house and my labor had progressed alot in the last hour. I definitely regretted not leaving earlier at that point but there was nothing we could do but go now. The Long Drive to the Hospital We started the 25-minute drive to the hospital just in time for morning traffic.   Not smart. First, we waited at the longest stoplight ever! I had my eyes closed through the entire drive but would open them here and there to see where we were. I kept saying HURRY! and Are we close? Then, I started saying just take me to the emergency room. I wanted John to know how urgent this was because he had to get me there fast because baby was coming any second.   I didn’t even wear a seatbelt on the drive and John told me later he was going 110 mph on the freeway. Yikes! He also ran a red light at the end but THANK GOD we finally got to the exit to the hospital. My moment of relief was when I looked up and saw the exit to Clairemont Mesa Blvd. I knew we were close enough to the hospital and we were going to make it there safely where someone could help us deliver this baby safely and not in a car. Thank the Lord! At The Hospital John knew better than to drop me at  the emergency room because he knew the people who we needed to get to were on the third floor in labor and delivery. There was no time to waste so John pulled up to the front drop off area, left the car running with all of our belongings in it and quickly grabbed me a wheelchair. He had asked me if I wanted to walk up to the third floor and I told him he was crazy. There was no way I could walk! He ran me into the hospital, straight to the elevator and got me up to the third floor. There was no one around that morning and even though I was in distress, it felt like everyone was just looking at us like we were CRAZY!!   I was mouthing HELP ME to people and they all just looked at us strangely. It was kind of a weird feeling. Thanks to the hospital tour that we took a few months back of the hospital, we knew exactly where we needed to go. As soon as we got to the third floor where we were supposed to check-in I just yelled, I’m pushing! I’m pushing! and they let us through security into labor and delivery without checking in. Once again, they thought we were crazy. The nurse didn’t even know my name or medical record number but she checked how far along I was right away.   I’m sure she didnt believe I was actually in the pushing phase and was as far along as I was. But, she checked and sure enough could feel Siennas head ready to come out at any moment. I was way past 10 cm dilated and it was time for her dramatic entrance. She quickly gathered all the staff and called the midwife who ran into the room to deliver my baby just in time. She moved me into the delivery room and I still had my eyes closed the whole time. I was still trying to relax between contractions and the wonderful midwife and nurses talked me through everything that needed to happen next. The Delivery I was wearing my Powerful shirt and had no time even to change into my hospital gown. I would feel much more powerful when I could push! The midwife told me our baby’s heartbeat was dropping and she couldn’t stay in the birth  canal for more than 10 minutes longer. She needed to get out now. She also said I needed to get her out on the next push because the umbilical cord was also around her neck. I’m always up for a challenge and I was so relieved that I could finally push after all this time trying to fight my body NOT to push. With my first labor, I pushed for 5 hours because she was stuck sideways!! And with my second labor, Sienna just needed three little pushes and she flew out. I was in A LOT of pain at that point and everyone was yelling at me to open my eyes once she was born! I opened my eyes and they laid her on my chest. We were shocked to look at the clock and realize that it was only 8:31am! FUN FACT: We only spent 9 minutes in the hospital before Sienna was born. We even got Mila off to her first day of preschool and had a baby in just an hour! Now, thats what I call efficient! Warning: Do not try delivering a baby at home or in your car. This birth story is incredible and I am so grateful it all worked out but it may not have. If we arrived a few minutes later, Im not sure what the situation would have been like. Not only was Siennas heartbeat low and her umbilical cord wrapped around her neck, but I also started bleeding too much after she was born. They had to give me a shot of Pitocin to stop me from bleeding so I didnt have a hemorrhage. Pitocin is a drug that many doctors use to induce labor. It was tough to make the decision to put Pitocin in my body after working so hard to have a natural labor but the midwife told me that I had to do it now or risk having a surgery later and not being able to be with Sienna later. By the way, I had to make that decision alone because John was parking our car and getting our belongings. Good thing we didnt get towed and the security guards were not around that morning! After I was doing better, the midwife said, Now, that was better than a cup of coffee to wake up! Thank you for reading and for all your sweet words of encouragement!! We are so very blessed to add another Classy Career Girl Baby to our family and team.   Please let me know if you have any questions about birth, labor or delivery in the comments! Im happy to support you in this exciting and life-changing process!

Darrell W. Gurney on How To Recover From Loss of a Dream Job - VocationVillage

Darrell W. Gurney on How To Recover From Loss of a Dream Job - VocationVillage Darrell W. Gurney responds to a music business professional who asks for career advice after losing his dream job.Hi, Ex MB,It downright stinks, doesn’t it? I’m not being facetious either…I feel your pain. And I want you to know, though it won’t make much difference to you right now, that you’re not alone. With the shakeup of our economy over the last few years, even if and when jobs do become plentiful again, they won’t be the same jobs as people had before. This was a different kind of recession, and there are people who will never be able to do what they did before. Now, that being said, the question becomes: so, whadya gonna do about it? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not minimizing your pain. Yet, life does go on, doesn’t it? Now, what I would considerâ€"and I know that this will sound completely far-fetchedâ€"is taking on the idea that this happened for a reason. I know, I know, that still doesn’t help. Unless, of course, you really DO take it on.What if, just what if there is something you don’t know that the Universe has in store for you? Perhaps even another passion, or another way to express your passion in music that you’re not aware of? It may seem like you know everything there is to know about the field, but what about standing up, putting on an inquiring mind, and getting out to talk to people about trends or other ancillary, yet related, possibilities? What are the industries and product lines related to what you did for so long? What are those people dealing with right now? If your area has gone down, what area has gone up?I say putting together some “research projects” and going out to investigate and explore the answers to some questions such as those will do a whole lot more for you than bemoaning the loss of your career object-of-affection. The sad truth in relationships is that people leave or die sometimes. That doesn’t mean we stop living. We go find new loves and create new possibilities. And, a lot of times, they are even better than the ones we had before! Everyone knows that the third marriage is the charm, right?In-The-Present Life-Liver, Darrell W. Career Profile A Day in the Life of wonderfelle MEDIA Founder, Elle Drouin - Classy Career Girl

Career Profile A Day in the Life of wonderfelle MEDIA Founder, Elle Drouin In this interview, we meet Elle Drouin,  Founder of  wonderfelle MEDIA. Weve been members of her photo library membership, Styled Stock Society, for over a year now and we were thrilled to finally meet the founder this month. We asked her all of the questions weve been dying to know like how she got the courage to leave her full-time job and what a typical day is like for her. We love how she strategically plans her day around her creative flow and even knows not to schedule meetings before 12pm. Sign us up! Hope you enjoy this interview! Elle Drouin Founder of wonderfelle MEDIA www.elledrouin.com Elle has  a Bachelor of Business Administration from The George Washington University with a dual concentration in finance and international business. In 2015, she started wonderfelle MEDIA. Connect with her: Instagram Facebook Twitter Pinterest Take us through a day in your life. What does your typical workday look like? One of the best things about running my own business is that I don’t really have a typical workday. Some days I’m styling, shooting, and editing photos for my clients and Styled Stock Society members. Some days I’m batching blog posts, email newsletters, or podcast interviews. Some days I’m doing event appearances in NYC or going on press trips with my dog. It really depends on what I have scheduled, but I love that no two days are exactly alike! While I may not have a typical day, there are a few things that I do consistently I don’t set an alarm, so I wake up whenever I feel rested. That’s usually between 9-10am I’m not a morning person, so I avoid scheduling meetings before noon as much as possible! I start every day with an allergy pill, a bottle of water, and a greek yogurt. I spend no more than 30 minutes responding to urgent emails in the AM and block off time at the end of the day for less urgent responses. I always take breaks to each lunch and dinner away from my computer! What is the best moment of your career so far? I honestly don’t think I could choose a single best moment of my career, but I think some of my best moments have been during the opportunities where I’ve gotten to travel for work. I’ve done some amazing collaborations with luxury hotels across the US, Puerto Rico, and Aruba and I’m always in awe and so thankful that getting paid to travel, meet new people, create content, and share it with the world is part of my job! What does career fulfillment mean to you? I used to think career fulfillment meant climbing the corporate ladder to a cushy corner office, but now career fulfillment means being able to serve a community while enjoying what I do and earning an income that allows me to live a life I love. There isn’t a single vision of what that looks like because I think that throughout my life I will find enjoyment in different things whether that’s marketing, styling, photography, or something totally different! I also think that the definition of “a life I love” isn’t something set in stone currently that means living in NYC, being able to explore all of the amazing things the city has to offer, and also being able to leave the city once a month to travel to new places. Maybe that will change in the future, but I always want my career to fuel my life, not be my life! At what point did you realize you wanted to start a business? I definitely wasn’t someone who grew up thinking I wanted to own a business. I’m a bit of a control freak and in my previous jobs I always had the feeling that I would be happier being my own boss! I started freelancing in late 2014 just to earn some extra income, loved the freedom of making money on my own terms, and I officially started my business in 2015. How did you get the courage to leave your secure financial advisor job to work on your business full time? I actually originally left my job as a financial advisor to move to NYC to work as the Director of Marketing Digital Strategy for an ecommerce startup which was totally different from my corporate job! I became obsessed with all things marketing and started a blog sharing marketing tips. As my blog grew, I realized I could monetize it by offering services to my blog readers and that’s how I got my first clients. I would say my courage to leave my job came from the fact that I had already proven to myself that there were people who wanted to hire me to help them. I wanted the freedom to work for myself full time, but I knew I didn’t actually have the time to build a legit business unless I quit my day job, so after freelancing for a few months, I left to run wonderfelle MEDIA full time and haven’t looked back! Tell us about your Instagram famous dog?! I started an Instagram account for my dog Mochi a few years ago just because I didn’t want to post a ton of dog photos on my own Instagram account. Her following quickly surpassed mine, and now she has over 100,000 followers who love keeping up with her adventures. Since I work from home, Mochi and I are always together, and we’ve created a brand around her fabulous life as a mini style-setter and dog model (who knows the importance of finding the best Instagram spots wherever she goes). She loves fashion, traveling with her humans, and exploring dog-friendly locations in NYC and beyond! Mochi has been named one of the most entrepreneurial dogs in America by Entrepreneur, and has been featured on Refinery29, the TODAY Show, CNBC, InStyle, and number of other media outlets. Shes also collaborated with brands like ABC, American Express, Disney, Google, and The Ritz Carlton and raised thousands of dollars for local animal shelters and rescue organizations. How do you see the photography industry changing with social media? It’s interesting because I wasn’t a photographer “before” social media, so I don’t really know what that was like. I think social media has made more people interested in photography since documenting our lives has become part of our culture. 3 years ago when I started Mochi’s Instagram account, I wasn’t a photographer at all I just took mediocre iPhone photos in the beginning. But as her following grew, I wanted to grow my photography skills as well! So I learned how to use my husband’s DSLR, spent a ton of time practicing, and eventually bought a camera of my own. I became a photographer because of social media and I think there are probably a lot of other people who are inspired by the content they see and want to create beautiful images as well. Why are imagery and photography so important when creating your brand? Your brand is essentially how people perceive you, and visuals are a key part to any brand. Imagery helps people to connect with you and strong, consistent branding helps people to remember you. Your brand is so much more than a logo or some brand colors it’s the visual story that you share with the world and that includes your photography or any other imagery that is associated with your brand. What are stock photos and how can they make our life easier? Stock photos are professional photos that people can download or purchase for use. Licensing terms vary, but in general, stock photos can make your life easier because they save time and money. Instead of hiring a professional photographer or trying to take photos on your own, purchasing stock photos is a way to have high-quality visuals without the stress! I created the Styled Stock Society, a stock photography membership for women entrepreneurs, because I realized that so many of the women in my audience struggled with having cohesive imagery for their websites, blogs, social media, and all the other places they were trying to build a brand online. The Styled Stock Society makes their life easier by giving them instant access to over 1,500 styled stock photos that they can use for all of their personal and business needs! UPDATE: Grab 30 free photos from Elles photo membership site here so you can try it out! What advice would you give to your 20-year-old self? I could probably write a whole book full of advice to my 20-year-old self but I think the top three things I would tell myself would be: Start before you feel ready I never look back on things and regret doing them, but I often wish I had started sooner! Instead of wasting time worrying about whether or not I was “ready” to do things (like start my business!), I would tell myself to do them sooner. You’re never going to be 100% prepared for things, but that shouldn’t stop you from doing them! You have to be willing to fail in order to succeed I used to let fear of failure hold me back from taking action. I’m a recovering perfectionist who always got straight As in school, so the concept of failure used to terrify me. But when you’re in the “real world” there’s no such thing as getting perfect grades. You’re going to stumble. You’re going to feel like things are hard. But you have to be willing to try and fail if you ever want to succeed. Sometimes the path isn’t obvious, but you can create it yourself When I was 20, Instagram didn’t exist. Social media was still relatively new and no one would have taken me seriously if I said that I was going to take pictures of my dog and post them on an app and get paid for it. At the time, I thought that the only path was a traditional career path because my parents and the people I looked up to had all done the same thing for 30+ years. Honestly, I didn’t know what I wanted to do when I “grew up” (and maybe I’m still figuring that out), but that’s ok. Explore your interests, find hobbies that you enjoy, never stop learning and you’ll figure it out along the way! Need more photos to help you grow your brand? Check out Elles  free styled stock photos you can start using right now.

3 Big Mistakes That Ruin Sports Management Careers CareerMetis.com

3 Big Mistakes That Ruin Sports Management Careers â€" CareerMetis.com Sports managers are among the most important professionals in sports today. While you might ooh and ahh over the physical feats of your favorite athletes, successes and failures are more often thanks to the work of sports managers â€" months or years in advance â€" than to the competitors on TV.If this makes you interested in becoming a sports manager, you aren’t alone. The sports industry in general is growing at a significant clip, and available sports management positions are expected to expandin the next decade or so. Now is a good time to invest in sports management education, perhaps by pursuing a sports management online master’s degree while you gain internships and entry-level work in the field.evalIt’s not a good idea to rush into sports management without taking this step. In fact, there are a number of mistakes you can make when building a career in sports management, and most of them will cripple your ability to find the success you crave. Here are a few of the big gest mistakes to avoid in these early stages of your career.1) Forgetting to Think Long-TermevalYou might want to get into sports management now, while your passion for sports is burning its hottest, but the truth is rushing into this field without developing a long-term career plan is a major blunder. You need to equip yourself with the right skills and knowledge to excel in sports management by earning first a bachelor’s in a related field like business administration.Later, you should return to school for a sports management online master’s degree, which will hone your existing abilities for use in the athletics industry. Both of these educational experiences will give you credentials that your competitors in the field might lack, and they introduce you to valuable contacts who will help you climb the career ladder.Additionally, once you begin working as a sports manager, you should think long-term in your workplace decisions. For instance, it might not be wise to trade a han dful of high-performing players for one untested first-round draft pick. When the future of an athletic franchise depends on these kinds of calls, you must work with your team Ultimately, sports is a business. In your personal life, you can live and die by the successes and failures of your favorite athletes and teams, but as a sports manager, you must recognize that not every move you or those around you make is personal.A good example of this mistake comes from the legend of sports management himself, Billy Beane. Though Beane is known as one of the most talented executives in sports â€" he was even commemorated in “Moneyball” and played by Brad Pitt â€" he has made some questionable trades for the Oakland Athletics, some of which seem to be led by his personal feelings instead of his professional skill. To avoid this behavior, you should surround yourself with experts in data and sports who can weigh in on potential moves. This way, you will be better equipped to avoid acting rashly on human emotion and in the end make a decision that will truly benefit your athlete, team or franchise.

6 Benefits to Using a Temp Agency to Find a Job - CareerAlley

6 Benefits to Using a Temp Agency to Find a Job - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. The past several years have marked Americas longest unemployment crisis since the Great Depression, with the highest jobless rates in recent history. While finding a permanent position can be difficult in this economy, consider temporary assignments if you are in the job market. Read on to explore 6 benefits of using a temp agency to find a job. 1. Getting Your Foot in the Door If you are given a temporary assignment at a company youre interested in working for, use it as an opportunity to prove your skills. If you make the right connections and excel during your temporary assignment, youll have a much better chance of getting hired on full-time when a permanent position opens. 2. Networking Even if youre not temping at a company where youd consider working long term, youll still have the opportunity to make important professional contacts. And networking is one of the best ways to find a permanent position thats a great fit for your skills and needs. 3. Keeping Your Skills Sharp Long considered a bastion for low-paid office workers, modern temporary agencies are anything but. While its certainly possible to find clerical temporary work, agencies exist that specialize in fields like information technology, health care, publishing, design, and more. Finding an agency that can place you with jobs in your field can help you hone your skills during your job searchand potentially learn new ones as well. 4. Taking Advantage of Flexibility While most temporary positions are of the 9-5 variety, you have complete control over when you decide to take assignments. That means its easy to take time off in between jobs for things like travel, hobbies, and attending classes or workshops. 5. Finding Out What Youd Like to Do If you are a recent graduate who is searching for work, you might not be completely sure what you want to do for a career. Most majors allow for plenty of flexibility, which means that you can use temp opportunities to find out what exactly youd like to do, as well as what kind of company and culture are the best fit for you long term. 6. Making Money Most temporary positions pay relatively well. In fact, in some industries temporary workers who work odd shifts are paid a premium compared to salaried workers. If you need to pay the bills while youre looking for a long-term position, temping just might be the solution youve been looking for. The bottom line is that temp agencies help find and create jobs for those who are struggling in finding work. Whether it is building jobs in West Midlands like PSR Solutions or other temp agencies, it can be used as an effective way to find work that could lead to a potential long-lasting and healthy career. == Read More: This is a Guest post.
