You cannot change the way that you are a working mother, and its nothing you ought to need to stow away. The threat in putting anything on your resume, including humanitarian effort, is that a questioner could conceivably get some information about it. So you should think about keeping off your resume any volunteer positions, for example, Work that included little exertion on your part, for example, a one-time stroll to fund-raise for malignant growth research.A supporting job, for example, stuffing envelopes at a gathering pledges event. That included disputable or touchy associations. 16 Lessons I Learned About Attracting Clients
Developing the Next Generation of Rainmakers 16 Lessons I Learned About Attracting Clients As you may know, I began my career practicing law on active duty in the United States Air Force. As a captain, my job was litigating government contract cases. That turned out to be great preparation for what was to come. Yet, when I started in private practice, I did not know what I did not know. I hope this is not what happened, but it is possible that I showed up for work my first day in a short sleeve dress shirt. That is how much I didnât know about practicing law in private practice. This week I am coaching a group of lawyers I have coached for the last 18 months for the last time. They were all associates when we started. Now many of them have been promoted to partner and others will likely be promoted when they are eligible. In our last meeting I will discuss some of the 16 lessons I learned about attracting clients: Just on the potential chance I showed up for work at my first firm my first day, I could have added: Never wear a short sleeve dress shirt, wear over the calf socks, wear tie shoes with a suit (I currently violate this one and my excuse is airport security). If you are attracting clients, what would you add to my list? I practiced law for 37 years developing a national construction law practice representing some of the top highway and transportation construction contractors in the US.

We are essentially investigating increasingly adaptable work game plans, including a few courses of action where you no longer work here and we no longer compensation you. It has nothing to do with any supposed downturn, we promise.....Finally, our wellbeing safety net provider, in the wake of accepting our latest check for premiums, has requested that we extend our Family Leave program. On the off chance that you have a family, please leave.Blachman's (blog-generated) novel, Anonymous Lawyer, is humorous, however I think his most noteworthy accomplishment is the Anonymous Law Firm site, total with counterfeit lawyer profiles. - posted by brian

Keyword Dominated Resumes - How Much is too Much
Watchword Dominated Resumes - How Much is excessively Theres a barely recognizable difference between over utilizing catchphrases in your resume and having the perfect touch. Its trickier than you might suspect to make a compelling and dynamic resume, so what do you need to do so as to get the privilege about of catchphrases that parity out the resume? A great deal goes into finding the correct method to encode your resume. You should have the option to lure HR administrators into perusing your resume without reiterating old news. In the course of recent years, increasingly more programming programs have been planned so as to limit the time it takes employing supervisors to peruse the pile of resumes they get. Managers are subject to watchwords to discover up-and-comers that they need to meet. The key is having the perfect measure of watchwords on your resume. Most organizations, including Fortune 1000 organizations and littler organizations, realize how to utilize these innovations to help with finding recently recruited employees, so you need to realize how to exploit similar procedures that they do. As indicated by the National Resume Writers Association, in excess of 80 percent of resumes are looked for work explicit watchwords. How would you decide the correct catchphrases? Much of the time, work explicit watchwords are things. Resume essayists have since quite a while ago utilized activity action words in their resume creation, and that equivalent model is as yet utilized. Be that as it may, what are the activity things that you need? They rely upon the sort of position youre applying for, your field and the kind of profession you look for. In any case, there are numerous words that will work for a norm, first draft continue. State for example that youre going after a client care position. A few catchphrases for that activity could be client database or overhauling programming. Audit the set of working responsibilities so as to discover watchwords that coordinate potential bosses look. The run of the mill catchphrases are regularly identified with the aptitudes and experience every business will look for in new competitors. Different occasions watchwords are exact catchphrases that HR directors are searching for so as to wipe out a wide area of applicants. On the off chance that you don't have IT Administrative Privileges as a component of your watchwords, you will be neglected for that particular position. Narrowing down your catchphrase decisions. You would prefer not to stack up your resume a lot with catchphrases. Rather, sprinkle the correct watchwords all through your resume. One plan to include more watchwords is by making a Territories of Expertise or Center Competencies segment. Along these lines you can include catchphrases that speak to the greater part of your capabilities in a space that is adequate to most of HR supervisors. This does not punish you, however rather upgrades what youve achieved. Since you don't have a clue about the entirety of the catchphrases HR chiefs will utilize, its a smart thought to utilize equivalents or language words that will speak to progressively explicit ventures. There are a ton of alternatives accessible so get some assistance from an expert resume essayist.

Career Branding in a Time of Career Reinvention
Vocation Branding in a Time of Career Reinvention I as of late addressed occupation searchers at the Women For Hire Career Expo in New York City and examined the significance of career branding which basically implies making an unmistakable and convincing message of significant worth that you can present to bosses in different manners. In these difficult occasions, when the economy directs that numerous people reinvent themselves, the idea of vocation marking is a higher priority than at any other time. Individuals regularly stall out in a procedure that depends on clarifying what they have done in the past instead of concentrating on how past victories can add to future accomplishment in another job and friends. Its critical to step away from distinguishing yourself too intimately with your past activity title and rather move towards a stage that interfaces your abilities with the issues bosses are confronting today. As you create your different profession marking guarantee including your resume, lift pitch, and online character/or ganizing profiles ask yourself these inquiries to guarantee that you demonstrate your one of a kind worth proposition. Is my message significant? On the off chance that you were recently utilized in a contracting market and are hoping to situate yourself as an up-and-comer in another industry, exhibit confirmation of abilities that will be critical to future businesses. Limit data about the business and the everyday errands and rather center around clarifying the business issues you understood that are significant over different industries. Does my message pass on transferable aptitudes? The stunt here is to demonstrate overall abilities without sounding conventional or cliche. Expressing that you are a decent issue solver, investigative, or conscientious is good for nothing without setting and it ought to be expected that you have these standard capabilities. Be that as it may, in the event that you can feature huge picture skills that recognize you and quickly make you alluring to another association, you can dispose of a portion of the inclination that originates from being an industry outcast. For instance in the event that you recently worked in an assembling domain and need to progress to social insurance, talk about the abilities that are significant across enterprises. Perhaps you effectively expanded channel organizations, diminished activities overhead expenses, or robotized a procedure or strategy to spare time and moneyfocus on your prosperity inside the competency to demonstrate to a future boss that you could reproduce comparable triumphs in their industry.Do I have a backer in this new position capacity or industry? At whatever point you progress to a new position capacity or industry its much increasingly basic to have individuals in your system who will be your team promoters and get you before the correct chiefs. A suggestion from an insider about your nomination would one say one is of the most impressive things you can use during your searc h.What are the potential impediments I should defeated in my pursuit technique and am I arranged to manage them? On the off chance that you are an untouchable attempting to break into another industry or occupation work, odds are that you will confront a few hindrances en route. Perhaps its that you dont have involvement with that industry, dont have any contacts in that industry, or dont have a specific wanted proficient accreditation. Envision the barricades and specialty a persuading reaction to show what you have done in the past that is like what the business needs, in spite of not having these different capabilities. Likewise, make advances through expert affiliations and online networks to manufacture quality relations that position you as somebody who is aware of everything with respect to a specific industry or occupation work.?

#FWDay2017 - The role of Exercise in Flexible Working
#FWDay2017 - The role of Exercise in Flexible Working As an exercise scientist, I am a huge supporter of flexible working There is so much evidence linking regular exercise with many positive health outcomes that benefit both the employee and employer. Having flexibility within your work day to exercise is a win-win situation. Staff that exercise regularly are fitter and healthier, less likely to take sick leave, recover quicker when they do, have more strategies for coping with stress and anxiety, report better sleep, suffer less back pain and have been shown to be more productive in their day. However, itâs more challenging fitting exercise into your life, if you do not have flexibility within your work schedule, so a good starting point is to have these conversations at work. Here are some simple ideas to consider. No need to try them all at once! Just start with one idea that feels right to you. Plan your exercise International physical activity guidelines generally recommend around 150 minutes a week of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity. Health benefits have been shown with less than this so just start with doing something, no matter how small. Diarise time each week for exercise â" eg start work later 3 days a week and exercise before work. If you are not a morning person, finish work earlier a few days a week and exercise on your way home. Put this exercise âappointmentâ into your diary just as you would do for a business meeting. It may also save you hours each week sitting in traffic! Take active lunch breaks Evidence shows that getting up from your desk, being active and, even better, getting outdoors is very beneficial throughout your work day. Whilst some more active work places have touch footy comps and running groups at lunch time, you can start small. Simply walk away from work in one direction for ten minutes then turn around and come back. Thatâs all it takes. (Oh, and some comfortable walking shoes help too). Go by yourself or invite a colleague and your group may grow. If your office is not in an area conducive to walking, consider going to a yoga or group fitness class. Many lunch time classes are 30-45minutes so you have time to eat and shower too. Socialise your exercise Socialising and exercising are a perfect match so, instead of office drinks, plan something active and fun for your next work social function. It can really be anything like an after work salsa class, a day out of the office hiking, team walking activities like treasure hunts, a social day of tennis or something more challenging like rock climbing. Ask your colleagues for ideas and take an office vote â" early collaboration in these types of activities tends to yield higher participation rates, plus great ideas. Before you know it, you may all be training for a local Charity Event while raising awareness and money for a great cause. Donât underestimate the willingness of your work colleagues to get active for charity. Sit less, stand up, walk more Sitting has been called âthe new smokingâ because of the health risks it delivers. So, if you are having trouble getting the flexibility in your work day to exercise, try some of these ideas for slotting in more physical activity. Consider standing meetings when you only need to meet colleagues for less than 15mins. Try walking meetings for discussions where no note taking is required. Have one central bin area, rather than individual bins, so everyone has more opportunities to walk when disposing of their rubbish throughout the day. Apply for building approval to leave the stair well unlocked so people can use the stairs rather than the lift and encourage this behaviour by placing reminder posters around the lift area. Put an alarm on your phone to remind you to get up and move for 5mins after every 60mins of sitting. This can really add up over an 8hour work day, you get 40mins more physical activity. I strongly encourage you to start these conversations in your workplace. Brainstorm with your colleagues more ways to increase physical activity into every work day plus how to create a more flexible working environment that encourages regular planned exercise. Then, lead by example. Australiaâs Flexible Working Day on Wednesday 21st June is the perfect time to start! #FWDay2017 | #FlexWorkFullLlife | #TackleFlexism Martha Lourey-Bird MSpSc, BSpSc(ExSc) With her Masterâs degree, Martha is a qualified exercise scientist, university lecturer, scientific adviser, fitness editor, corporate wellness presenter, sportâs coach, author and proud mum to her very own fit kids. Why Brexit Means Exit for People in the Creative Industry
Why Brexit Means Exit for People in the Creative Industry Three years after the historic referendum in Britain in which people voted to come out of the European Union it finally happened. Brexit happened on Friday, January 31st at midnight in Europe. The UK is still in a year of transition while politicians thrash out the finer details of the divorce from the EU. But what does it mean for employers and employees in the creative industries? Well new research by TopCV, reveals that 25 percent of marketing, media, and design professionals are planning to seek employment outside the UK as a result of Britainâs decision to leave the European Union. Britainâs exit on the 31st January 2020 will have seismic consequences for Britains creative industries, worth £268 billion in 2018. TopCVâs data found that 15 percent of those surveyed would consider packing up their lives and moving from the UK. However, Brexit will cause greatest harm to the marketing, media and design sector, which will see a quarter of its workforce up and leave to advance their careers, followed closely by workers in science and education (21%), engineering and construction (18%), project and program management (17%), and technology (16%). Our research reveals incredibly dire implications for Britainâs creative industries. We have some of the brightest minds and most creative agencies in the UK, so for a quarter of that talent to leave would be shocking. Hiring and retaining the right staff, even in the steadiest of times, can be tough. Employers will have to identify creative ways to incentivize their employees to remain in the UK â" and quickly. As a silver lining, there are numerous ways those wanting to break into these industries can leverage Brexit as an opportunity to advance their careers as a result of new vacancy openings. Amanda Augustine, careers expert at TopCV Whatever job losses or opportunities Brexit may bring, following are four ways you can proactively take charge of your career: 1. Invest in your network If you had neglected your professional network for a while, nowâs the time to reinvest in this important career tool. In times of job uncertainty, your network of professional and personal contacts can be an invaluable source of support and motivation, career advice and job leads. Reconnect with former colleagues and alumni in your field, and seek opportunities, such as relevant networking events, to make new connections. If youâre interested in working for a new company or in a new industry, schedule informational interviews with individuals who already work at the organisation or in the field, and can help you determine whether itâs the right move for you. 2. Strengthen your skillset Whether youâre planning to pursue a new line of work or youâre wishing to safeguard your current position against redundancy, itâs in your best interest to seek professional development opportunities that can boost your employability. Look to your professional organizations, the local universities and the web for free or low-cost workshops and courses that can help you sharpen a skill or learn an entirely new one. 3. Promote your expertise Modesty has no place in an ambitious professionalâs career tool kit â" especially when the job market is competitive. Use this opportunity to Google your name, reevaluate your LinkedIn profile and other social media activities, and make certain youâre consistently promoting your talents to prospective employers and potential networking connections. Consider posting articles about your industry and sharing your perspective on the topic, publishing an article on a blog or your LinkedIn profile that demonstrates your knowledge of a subject, and sharing outcomes of your work or professional-development opportunities. You cannot expect your network â" or even your manager â" to appreciate your accomplishments and expertise if you donât actively merchandise them. 4. Update your CV Whether youre looking for a job because the market is flush with opportunities or because companies are downsizing, a strong CV is the foundational building block for your post-Brexit career preparations. Although the art and science of CV writing can be tough to master, professional CV writers can help craft a CV that can be your winning ticket into any interview room, no matter the circumstances.

My Dramatic Natural Childbirth Story Using The Bradley Method - Classy Career Girl
My Dramatic Natural Childbirth Story Using The Bradley Method Im so excited to introduce you to the newest member of the Classy Career Girl family, Sienna Grace Runyan. Born on August 1st and sharing the same birthday as her late great-grandmother, Margaret, she came fast and furious. The story is nothing short of dramatic and exciting so Iâm sure this little girl has lots of surprises coming our way in the future. While my labor with my first daughter, Mila, lasted a tough and grueling 20 hours, my labor with Sienna only lasted 4 hours!! You can read Milas birth story here. A Note About My Natural Childbirth Decision Before we start, I do have to share my decisions for labor. For both of my deliveries, I tried my best to have a natural, unmedicated childbirth and follow The Bradley Method. Bradley Method is also known as husband-coached childbirth and teaches parents to manage labor through deep breathing and support of a partner. If you are interested in natural childbirth, I cannot recommend these classes enough! If you dont have the time to attend the class, I recommend the book, Natural Childbirth The Bradley Way by Susan McCutcheon. Its a little old but has all the info you need to have a natural childbirth. Note: For both of my labors, I was just minutes away from an unmedicated delivery. The midwives and doctors at both of my births gave me one last push or else and to this day, Im not quite sure what or else was going to be. Emergency C-section, forceps, vacuum, drugs.Im glad I never had to know. I know that not every mothers situation can be a natural childbirth and every mother needs to make the right decision for her. For me, I knew I wanted to go into labor committed and focused on doing everything I could to have a natural childbirth and give my daughters the best possible entrance into this world. If my deliveries would have ended with something outside of my control such as a C-section, drugs or vacuum, I would not have been upset because I knew I did my best and my husband and I were as educated as possible in order to make the best decision for our family. I chose natural because after doing my research, there are a lot of complications that can arise with inductions and with c-sections. I have nothing against them, I just knew that committing to a natural childbirth was the right decision for me with as little intervention as possible. And as youll see, there wasnt much time for any intervention for baby #2 almost born in the car! How Labor Started My contractions started at 4am on August 1st, 2018. That was the exact same time I woke up with contractions with my first daughter, Mila! Initially, contractions feel like very light period cramps so I kept telling myself not to get my hopes up. I laid in bed for 2 hours just letting them come and go because they werenât consistent or very painful at all. I didnt even wake my husband up because I knew we needed rest for a long day. I woke up and walked around to see if contractions continued. They did so I knew this was it. I woke up John at 6am and said today is the day. It was 2 days before my due date so I was definitely ready to meet my baby girl. The night before when we went to bed we said it will probably be tomorrow because we actually have plans tomorrow and we didnt have plans for the entire week before. The day that contractions started, Mila had her first day of preschool. I also had two live calls I was supposed to do with our members and John was supposed to play tennis that night. It was already one busy day but that wasnt stopping Sienna from making her grand entrance. After I woke up John at 6am. I finished packing my hospital bag. I also got Milas backpack ready for the first day of school between contractions and then hopped in the shower. The water felt really good on my body during my contractions and I remember this from my first labor with Mila. I was timing my contractions and they were coming closer and closer together and getting stronger. I was surprised that they were getting closer but I didnât want to get my hopes up that things would move fast because of my previous 20-hour intense labor. I got out of the shower and got dressed. Of course, Mila woke up and wanted me to help her get dressed. I somehow helped her put on her dress for school in between contractions and asked John to make us eggs. He looked at my contraction timer app and realized we might need to go to the hospital sooner rather than later. So he called my mom to have her pick up Mila from preschool that day and called the hospital to let them know to reserve us a room. The woman who I spoke with said not to rush in if I wanted a natural labor and said to wait longer. So, I agreed because just talking to them made my contractions practically disappear. Who asks a laboring woman her medical record number and expects her to know! My first birth with Mila was in a birth center so everyone around was supportive of a natural childbirth. I knew now that since I was giving birth in a hospital, I would be an anomaly. I was worried about not being able to have the natural labor I wanted once I got to the hospital and I also knew the contractions would be much more comfortable at home. And Then Things Went Fast. John was still getting Mila ready for school so I laid on the couch in a side-lying position that I learned at our Bradley Method class. This was the same position that I used in early labor with Mila. This time the position was unbearable and so much more painful than I remember. I wanted to scream during my contractions but Mila was still around having breakfast so I didnât want to freak her out. She thought mommy was just sleeping on the couch. Finally, I told John he needed to leave now and pushed them out the door with a hug and kiss to Mila in between a contraction so he could get her to school and I could scream. John walked her to school and I asked another parent to watch Mila a little early because we were headed directly to the hospital. Just a few minutes/contractions later by myself in the living room and my water broke. I quickly messaged John and said hury instead of hurry and John dropped Mila off with the first parent he saw and ran back because he knew I never mis spell so it must really be urgent. I got to the point by myself on the couch where I didnt think I could do it any longer. The point where you regret your decision to go natural and if you are in a hospital you say give me some drugs ASAP!! But I wasnt in a hospital and baby was almost out! John got back super fast after that text and I was panicked by myself. I could feel the urge to push and knew that the baby was coming very soon. Everything I learned though from Bradley Method made me know that I could not push yet since I was not in a hospital. I didnât even have time to put a change of clothes on after my water broke so I asked John for a towel and wrapped it around me. He was still packing the car (and moving kind of slow in my opinion) until I screamed, Get in the car and drive NOW! I jumped in the front seat praying that we would get there in time and trying not to push even though my body wanted to. It was 8am when we left our house and my labor had progressed alot in the last hour. I definitely regretted not leaving earlier at that point but there was nothing we could do but go now. The Long Drive to the Hospital We started the 25-minute drive to the hospital just in time for morning traffic. Not smart. First, we waited at the longest stoplight ever! I had my eyes closed through the entire drive but would open them here and there to see where we were. I kept saying HURRY! and Are we close? Then, I started saying just take me to the emergency room. I wanted John to know how urgent this was because he had to get me there fast because baby was coming any second. I didnât even wear a seatbelt on the drive and John told me later he was going 110 mph on the freeway. Yikes! He also ran a red light at the end but THANK GOD we finally got to the exit to the hospital. My moment of relief was when I looked up and saw the exit to Clairemont Mesa Blvd. I knew we were close enough to the hospital and we were going to make it there safely where someone could help us deliver this baby safely and not in a car. Thank the Lord! At The Hospital John knew better than to drop me at the emergency room because he knew the people who we needed to get to were on the third floor in labor and delivery. There was no time to waste so John pulled up to the front drop off area, left the car running with all of our belongings in it and quickly grabbed me a wheelchair. He had asked me if I wanted to walk up to the third floor and I told him he was crazy. There was no way I could walk! He ran me into the hospital, straight to the elevator and got me up to the third floor. There was no one around that morning and even though I was in distress, it felt like everyone was just looking at us like we were CRAZY!! I was mouthing HELP ME to people and they all just looked at us strangely. It was kind of a weird feeling. Thanks to the hospital tour that we took a few months back of the hospital, we knew exactly where we needed to go. As soon as we got to the third floor where we were supposed to check-in I just yelled, Iâm pushing! Iâm pushing! and they let us through security into labor and delivery without checking in. Once again, they thought we were crazy. The nurse didnât even know my name or medical record number but she checked how far along I was right away. Iâm sure she didnt believe I was actually in the pushing phase and was as far along as I was. But, she checked and sure enough could feel Siennas head ready to come out at any moment. I was way past 10 cm dilated and it was time for her dramatic entrance. She quickly gathered all the staff and called the midwife who ran into the room to deliver my baby just in time. She moved me into the delivery room and I still had my eyes closed the whole time. I was still trying to relax between contractions and the wonderful midwife and nurses talked me through everything that needed to happen next. The Delivery I was wearing my Powerful shirt and had no time even to change into my hospital gown. I would feel much more powerful when I could push! The midwife told me our babyâs heartbeat was dropping and she couldnât stay in the birth canal for more than 10 minutes longer. She needed to get out now. She also said I needed to get her out on the next push because the umbilical cord was also around her neck. Iâm always up for a challenge and I was so relieved that I could finally push after all this time trying to fight my body NOT to push. With my first labor, I pushed for 5 hours because she was stuck sideways!! And with my second labor, Sienna just needed three little pushes and she flew out. I was in A LOT of pain at that point and everyone was yelling at me to open my eyes once she was born! I opened my eyes and they laid her on my chest. We were shocked to look at the clock and realize that it was only 8:31am! FUN FACT: We only spent 9 minutes in the hospital before Sienna was born. We even got Mila off to her first day of preschool and had a baby in just an hour! Now, thats what I call efficient! Warning: Do not try delivering a baby at home or in your car. This birth story is incredible and I am so grateful it all worked out but it may not have. If we arrived a few minutes later, Im not sure what the situation would have been like. Not only was Siennas heartbeat low and her umbilical cord wrapped around her neck, but I also started bleeding too much after she was born. They had to give me a shot of Pitocin to stop me from bleeding so I didnt have a hemorrhage. Pitocin is a drug that many doctors use to induce labor. It was tough to make the decision to put Pitocin in my body after working so hard to have a natural labor but the midwife told me that I had to do it now or risk having a surgery later and not being able to be with Sienna later. By the way, I had to make that decision alone because John was parking our car and getting our belongings. Good thing we didnt get towed and the security guards were not around that morning! After I was doing better, the midwife said, Now, that was better than a cup of coffee to wake up! Thank you for reading and for all your sweet words of encouragement!! We are so very blessed to add another Classy Career Girl Baby to our family and team. Please let me know if you have any questions about birth, labor or delivery in the comments! Im happy to support you in this exciting and life-changing process!
